University Suburban Health Center (USHC) is an independent medical center that is affiliated with University Hospitals of Cleveland (UHC) and
Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). USHC's 145 board-certified physicians and 400 professional support staff provide patients with high quality medical care on an outpatient basis. Its mission is "to improve the health of the community by providing quality services and education in a caring manner."
USHC was founded in 1973 by a small group of physicians who wanted to humanize high-technology medicine and to make outpatient medical care convenient, cost effective and accessible to all patients. Then, as well as today, the group's successors remain dedicated to giving their patients personalized care from examination and testing through diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.
The physicians, who represent more than 35 medical and surgical specialties, have a full complement of medical resources available to them that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of medical problems. Among those support services are a diagnostic imaging center that includes CT, MRI, mammography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine; bone densitometry and x-rays; an extensive clinical laboratory; a surgery center and GI suite; audiology and vestibular testing; nutrition services; and physical therapy and sports medicine. An optical shop and café are located near the main lobby.
In addition to providing personalized care, the physicians have a strong commitment to education. They not only educate patients during appointments, but also keep the general population informed through monthly community health talks. Each physician holds a faculty appointment at CWRU and has admitting privileges at UHC. This not only contributes to the advanced level of medicine practiced at USHC, but also provides a valuable opportunity for medical students and residents to observe and learn the latest in outpatient care. USHC is the primary outpatient teaching site for 3rd year CWRU medical students.
